Haiku Project II

i.

i look at houses
that i know we can’t afford
this one’s near a lake

imagine for me
that it’s the golden hour
through the trees upstate

miracles happen
but are never permanent
hold onto this one

there is a silence –
i hope we never hear it.
play that song louder

oh, dearest mother
the dark heartbeat of the world
beats slower each day

ii.

remember a time
when all of us together
felt like a movie

well, you are dead now
the wheel turns over again
but i don’t feel new

they say there is no
way to save a drowning man
so far from the shore

i say you’d have laughed
at the trite idiom use
with no second thoughts
